LOOMIS GRABS GOBLIN 250 AT ROCKFORD By: Kevin Ramsell Sunday, October 23, 2005 (Rockford, IL) - Tim Loomis survived the rain and the other 119 competitors to take home the Goblin 250 at the Rockford Speedway. Rick Wishard took home the demolition derby. A field of 120 cars took the green flag under cloudy skies. Roger Markham held the early lead in the first half of the event. On lap 100, Markham was forced to pit after having two flat front tires. This handed the lead over to Jason Roth. Roth would lead all the way to the halfway break. During the break, the rain started to pour at the Speedway. But, this didn't stop the race as the field took the green on a wet track. Roth had some problems driving on the wet surface and this allowed Paul Ermel to take over the lead. Ermel would also run into tire problems and was forced to pit twice. It was during his second stop that he lost the lead to Loomis. Loomis worked his way around the traffic and kept is car under control all the way to the checkered flag and capture the win. Markham would recover for a second place finish, two laps behind Loomis. 23 cars that just finished the Goblin 250 returned to the track for the Demolition Derby. It came down to Kurt Goeddeke, Evan Nelson and Rick Wishard. Goeddeke and Wishard ganged up on Nelson and eliminated him. Nelson would take 3rd place. Goeddeke and Wishard then put on a spirited battle for the win. At the end, Wishard was the last man standing and took home the win. Jenna McNeilly of Braidwood, IL and Hayden Scharmer of Beloit, WI took home the Kids Costume contest. The 58th season of racing at the Rockford Speedway will come to an end next Saturday with the re-scheduled final day of the 40th Annual National Short Track Championship presented by Chicago International Truck. The CRA Super Series 250-lap feature, ASA Late Model Series 100-lap feature, Mid-American 75-lap feature and the Mid-American Truck 30-lap feature will highlight the event. Along with crowning the NSTC champions, each Series will also be crowning their Season Champion as well.
