Posted by Grundy County Speedway on 8/29/2005, 11:12 am Not only will there be fireworks on Sunday night at the Grundy County Speedway to close the 2005 racing season, there will be fireworks on the speedway as the chase for the championship has come down to the final two nights of racing, at the Fairgrounds, in Morris, Illinois. On Friday night, September 2nd, it will be Fan Appreciation Night, along with a full program of racing in four divisions. Fans in attendance will have a chance for a color TV, racing flags, season tickets for 2006 and free popcorn for the kids entering the speedway. Racing gets under way at 8pm. On Sunday evening, September 4th, the Grundy County Speedway will hold the Annual Night Of Features, with the 50-lap late model Lee Schuler Memorial topping the program. The Mid-American division will hold a 40-lap main event, the Street Stock class will run a 35-lap feature, and the mini-stock class will go around the Grundy oval for 15 laps in their main event. The UMARA Midgets will also be on hand for a 30-lap Midget Championship event. FIREWORKS YOU CAN FEEL by the Mad Bomber will also highlight the nights excitement on this final stock car event of 2005. With double championship points on the line, the final night will determine the track champions, with a close battle in three classes. In the high-powered late model division, only 11 points separate first through third place, with Duane Pierson, from Lockport leading Plainfield’s Billy Knippenberg Jr by a mere three marks going into the final week-end of action. Tinley Park veteran Tom Smith, who held the top spot earlier in the season, is just eleven points behind Pierson, who crashed his race car last Friday night. Pierson may be driving a borrowed race car as he vies for his first late model title. In the Mid-American division, Jerry Einhaus Jr, from Seneca, has a 151 point cushion going into the final week-end, but it isn’t a lock on the title. Hampshire’s Jeremy Bloomberg still has a distant shot at the title if Einhaus doesn’t make the events. The Street Stock division championship will also go down to the final night with four drivers separated by just 78 points. Rick Dawson, from Lemont currently holds to top spot by just six points over Kenosha Wisconsin driver Chad Proctor, who has been on a hot streak lately. Justin Claypool, from Morris, sits 24 marks behind Dawson and LaGrange Park native Chris Sanda currently sits 78 points back in fourth. The newly formed Mini-stock division, that has seen up to 26 cars start the feature event, also is too close to call, with Jason Claypool, from Morris barely holding on to the top spot by two points over Nick Clubb. The action begins earlier on Sunday night, with time trials at 5pm and the first race slated for a 6:30 start. Children 11 and under are free on both nights, with a charge of $10.00 for adults on Friday and $12.00 for Sunday’s final show, with free parking both nights. The Grundy County Speedway is located just north of I-80, on Rt 47, at the Fairgrounds, in Morris, Illinois.
