McCOY, WAGNER, PRUITT, AND JONES ROCK AT ROCKFORD By: Kevin Ramsell Saturday, August 20, 2005 (Loves Park, IL) - Brett McCoy, Dave Wagner, Greg Pruitt and Ken Jones celebrated feature wins on Kids Night at the Rockford Speedway. McCoy won his first feature win of the year as he celebrated his daughter, Taylor, 8th birthday. Mike Cox took the lead at the start of the 30-lap main event. McCoy started fourth by lap 7 he got on the inside of Cox to challenge for the top spot. A lap later, McCoy took over the lead. Ricky Bilderback moved from his eighth starting position to second by lap 12. Three laps later, Bilderback caught up to McCoy to challenge for the top spot. Bilderback tried to use the inside line, but McCoy was able to hold him off. This allowed Bobby Wilberg to move from his ninth starting spot to third, right behind the leaders. Bilderback would continue to look on the inside, but he was able to hold off Bilderback at the checkers by half a car-length. Wilberg held on to third. Jon Reynolds Jr. and Jerry Gille rounded out the top five. "We got a crate motor, we have half the money in our motor. If he was going to beat me he was going to have to wreck me for the win." An emotional McCoy said in victory lane. Wagner grabbed his second Budweiser American Short Tracker feature win Dave Eggert took the early lead in the 25-lap event. Wagner moved to the inside of Eggert on lap 6 to challenge the lead. The two swapped the lead for the next three laps until Wagner pulled away from Eggert on lap 9. The caution flew on David Cooter spun coming out of turn four. On the re-start, going down the backstretch, Lloyd Hawkins got into the back of Jack Atchison causing Atchison to spin. It also collected Don Russell, Keith Pierce and Matt Berger was also involved. Wagner would continue to lead at the re-start and would hold off BJ and George Sparkman this second feature win of the season. Aaron Rude came home fourth with Nick Cina Jr. rounding out the top five. Carlson, once again, gave the fans in attendance a chance to get half-price chicken at the Rockford area Popeye's. Corey Teran took the lead at the start of the 20-lap feature event for the Coca-Cola RoadRunner division. Carlson started 10th he worked his way up to 5th by lap 5. The caution flew on lap 7 when Beau Lawson spun coming out of fourth turn. Teran continued to lead at the re-start. Carlson worked the inside line to get past Greg Pruitt for second on lap 14. Carlson continued to stay on the inside got past Teran for the lead two-laps later. Carlson would go on to capture another win with Pruitt finishing in second. Rick Nielsen would come home third with Dennis Smith Jr. and Dave Lignell rounding out the top five. Following post-race inspection, Carlson failed post-race inspection. This handed the win to Pruitt. Ken Jones took the 20-lap SuperCup feature event. Mick Ellis grabbed the early lead. Jones moved from his fifth starting spot up to the top spot by getting past Ellis on lap 5. The only caution came out when Leo Villarral got a flat tire and stopped on the front stretch. Jones continued to lead at the re-start. At the finish it was Jones with the win. Erik Gehrke came home second with Jeff Myers third. Jake Jump and Ellis rounded out the top five. Teegin Schaefer of Beloit, Chase Higgins of Loves Park, and Kyle Luse of Belvidere won the Kids Bike Races. Each won a brand new bike. The final Full Throttle Wednesday takes place this Wednesday night at the Rockford Speedway. The racing action gets underway at 7:07 p.m. There will also be the Fast & Furious Spectacular Drags that night as well. Rockford Speedway is the home of the 40th Annual National Short Track Championship presented by Chicago International Truck. 15 divisions will be challenging the high-banked quarter-mile oval on September 22-25, 2005. Highlight events include a 250-lap CRA Super Series feature and a 100-lap ASA Late Model Series main event.
