REYNOLDS HOLDS OFF BILDERBACK AGAIN By: Kevin Ramsell Saturday, August 13, 2005 (Loves Park, IL) - It was another great night of racing action at the Rockford Speedway with Jon Reynolds Jr, George Sparkman, Pat Smith and Steve Talley taking home feature trophies. Reynolds charged his way to his seventh weekly feature win in the NASCAR Late Model division. Bill Hobson and Chad Misslich led the field to the green flag in the 30-lap feature event. Misslich grabbed the lead but Hobson came back on took over the top spot on lap 6. Reynolds Jr. moved from his sixth starting spot to second by lap 8. A lap later, Reynolds worked the inside of Misslich to take over the lead. On lap 23, Hobson and Jerry Gille were battling for position when the two made contact and Hobson's car snapped and went head on in the outside wall. Hobson was able to walk away but was done for the evening. Hobson was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Reynolds continued to lead on the re-start, and as most of his feature wins have been, held off Ricky Bilderback at the finish. Bobby Wilberg was third. Brett McCoy finished in the fourth position while Gille recovered to finish fifth. "We didn?t expect to win but some things went our way. Man, this car was good." A jubilant Reynolds said in victory lane. George Sparkman grabbed his third feature win in the Budweiser American Short Tracker division. Frank Bridges grabbed the early lead in the 25-lap feature event. George Sparkman started in the sixth position and worked his way to second by lap 4. A lap later he went on the inside of Bridges to challenge for the top spot. After two laps of side-by-side racing, Sparkman took over the top spot. A great battle was shaping for second between Dave Wagner, Bridges and BJ Sparkman. On lap 19, Wagner got loose in turn two and made contact with BJ Sparkman, who was on the inside of Wagner. Wagner?s car then went to the right and hit Bridges into the backstretch wall. Bridges was taken off the hook. Bridges and Sparkman were able to continue. George Sparkman continued to lead at the re-start and was uncontested all the way to the checkered flag. Jason Evans drove home second and Tim Steger was third. Scott Dolliver and Nick Cina Jr. rounded out the top five. Evans second place finish allowed him to get within one-point of BJ Sparkman in the Budweiser American Short Tracker point standings. Smith won the 20-lap feature in the Coca-Cola RoadRunner division. Cory Teran took the lead as the green flag dropped on the feature event. Smith moved from his fifth starting position and challenged for the lead on lap 5. The two battled side-by-side until Smith pulled away on lap 7. Smith would role on to his first feature win and showed off his new haircut in victory lane. Current Coca-Cola RoadRunner Point Leader, Dan Carlson, struggled to get through traffic but worked his way to a second place finish. Gene Marocco followed Carlson for third. Teran and Chad Smith rounded out the top five. Steve Talley took home the 13-lap Hornet Swarm. He captured the lead on the start and held back a huge pack of Hornets for the win. Ashley Privett of Machesney Park won the "Speedway Idol" competition. The first of the final two Full Throttle Wednesdays take place this Wednesday night at 7:07 p.m. The highlight of the night will be a $100 TO WIN Burnout Competition. If you have a car and think you can do the best burnout, bring to the track on Wednesday night and give it your best shot. Next Saturday night, it's another great night of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action. Plus, it will also be Kid's Night with all children 11 and under admitted FREE. Plus, there will also be Kid?s Photo I.D. and bike races. The action will start at 7:07 p.m. Rockford Speedway is the home of the 40th Annual National Short Track Championship presented by Chicago International Truck. 15 divisions will be challenging the high-banked quarter-mile oval on September 22-25, 2005. Highlight events include a 250-lap CRA Super Series feature and a 100-lap ASA Late Model Series main event.
