BENNETT, PRUITT, DOBBS, MAYBERRY & MONTEMAYOR EARN FEATURE WINS By: Kevin Ramsell Wednesday, July 13, 2005 (Loves Park, IL) ? It was another great night of Full Throttle racing at the Rockford Speedway. At the end of the night, it was Doug Bennett, Greg Pruitt, Wanda Dobbs, Jack Mayberry and Ben Montemayor that went home with feature trophies. Doug Bennett held off the challenge of Todd Eldridge to take home his second feature win in the Grand National division. Eldridge and Bennett started on the front row and they put on a great show for the fans. The two ran side-by-side for the first few laps until Bennett got the lead outright. Eldridge didn't let Bennett get away. Throughout the 25-lap event, he would try to get on the inside to take over the top spot. The closest he came with 10 laps to go when Eldridge was on the inside and got loose coming off of turn four. Eldridge was able to collect his car and make another charge as they came to the checkers. It was Bennett with the win and Eldridge was second. Fred Nason came home third. The father/son duo of Dave and Brock Behnke rounded out the top five with son, Brock, taking fourth over his dad. Eldridge's second place finish allowed him to re-gain the points lead. He currently holds a 2 points lead over Nason. Brock Behnke and Matt Lundberg are tied for third, only 8 points behind the leader. Greg Pruitt captured his feature win in the Coca-Cola RoadRunner division. Kelly Barclay took the early lead in the 20-lap event. Pruitt worked on the inside of Barclay to take over the top spot. The two made contact and Barclay fell back. Pruitt took over the top spot. Dan Carlson worked his way up to second and challenged Pruitt for the lead with four laps to go. Carlson tried to get him on the inside, but Pruitt was able to hold off Carlson for the victory. Wanda Dobbs captured the first Winged Women on Wheels feature event. She took the lead at the start and had a pretty good lead. Amy Flippo was able to catch Dobbs with five laps to go. She tried to get on the inside of Dobbs for the top spot, but the veteran driver was able to hold off Flippo for the win. Shonna Frisch took the early lead in the second WWOW 15-lap feature event. The fans kept a close eye on Dobbs as she started shotgun on the field. By the second lap, Dobbs was up to sixth. Current Points Leader, Vachenzia Jester worked her way to second. At the checkers it was Frisch with the victory. Jester came home second and Dobbs finished third. With her first and third place finishes, Dobbs was the overall winner. Jack Mayberry had to earn his sixth Figure 8 feature win. Mayberry started near the back of the eight-car field at the start. By lap 3, he was already up to second. Dennis Smith held the lead but on lap 4, he fell off the pace to give the lead to Mayberry. Chris Gantz put on a late charge and came up short at the finish. Ben Montemayor held off a strong challenge from Jarrod Sutherland to capture the 13-lap Hornet Swarm. Sutherland did all he could to get by Montemayor. But Montemayor ran a strong race and did what he did to hold off to hold off Sutherland to win his first feature of the season. This Saturday night (July 16), the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series returns to action as OSF Lifeline and Metro Medical present the Mid-Season Championships. The NASCAR Late Models, Budweiser American Short Trackers, and Coca-Cola RoadRunners will be in action on that night. Practice will begin at 5:00 p.m. At 6:15 p.m. fans will be invited onto the racing surface for autographs and photos with their favorite NASCAR Rockford Speedway competitors. The racing program will begin at 7:07 p.m. And finally, the Figure 8 Train Race will cap off a great night of racing action. Also, don't miss the extraction demonstration performed by the Harlem/Roscoe Fire Department. It should be a great night of racing, make your plans now.
