Press Release: Race Report Date: June 24, 2005 By: John Wells Haseleu Wins Big Boom 75 for ASA Late Models at MIS Nathan Haseleu of Pardeeville won the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Model Gordie Boucher Big Boom 75 at Madison International Speedway. Andrew Morrissey in the Bryden Motors Super Late Models, Scott Lawver in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, and Gary Cerny of Janesville also took home checkered flags. Dan Lensing of Rockford and Jason Tyler of Stoughton started in the front row of the twenty-four car Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Model Big Boom 75. Lensing took the early lead but the big story was back in the field. From his fourteenth starting position, Haseleu wasted no time working his way through the field. After six laps he had already passed nine cars and was all the way up to fifth. On lap fifteen he moved into second place behind Lensing. Tom Gille of Winnebago, Illinois, was just as quick as he moved up to fourth. On lap twenty-two Haseleu worked his way past Lensing for the lead. Despite several cautions and the need to work through lapped traffic, Haseleu was able to hold off Lensing and the fast charging cars of Ryan Hanson and Chad Wood. Haseleu maintained his lead for the rest of the race with Lensing hanging on for second followed by Hanson, Wood, and Bobby Wilberg of Orfordville. Rounding out the top ten were John Wood of Madison, Troy Hintzsche of Malta, Illinois, Ryan Carlson of Loves Park, Illinois, Travis Sauter of Necedah, and Jesse Saunders of Janesville. Haseleu set fast time with a lap of 18.352 or 98.082 mph. Nick Hammer of Sun Prairie won the qualifying race which also saw Bruce Lee of Edgerton, Nate Oppliger of Oregon, and JD Leonard of Brodhead transferring to the feature. Andrew Morrissey took home the checkered flag in the fifty lap feature for the Bryden Motors Super Late Models. The win made it two in a row for Morrissey who also claimed the ASL feature at MIS on Saturday, June 18. Brian Johnson Jr. of Roscoe, Illinois, and Kyle Kinder of McFarland led the field of fifteen super late models to the green flag. Johnson grabbed the early lead with Kevin Tunks of Indianford up to second. On lap eleven Steve Rubeck of Cherry Valley, Illinois, overtook Tunks for second and set his sights on Johnson. On lap fourteen Morrissey had already moved to fifth from his tenth place starting position. By lap twenty Johnson’s advantage over Rubeck had just about disappeared. Johnson was able to hold off Rubeck until lap thirty-three when Rubeck made the pass to take the lead. However, Morrissey was closing fast and one lap later was able to motor by Johnson for second. Morrissey eventually took the lead with an inside pass of Rubeck on lap forty and cruised to victory. Rubeck was able to hold on to second followed by Dale Nottestad of Cambridge, Ryan Mathews of Lake Geneva, and Bobby Wilberg of Orfordville. Wilberg set fast time with a lap of 17.830 or 100.953 mph. Wilberg has set fast time each night out in the super late model division. Scott Lawver of Roscoe, Illinois, won his first-ever feature in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman after coming close several times this year. Mark English of Janesville and Chico Riedner of Waunakee started in the front row for the fifteen lap feature. Riedner, in his first time out at MIS in 2005, set the early pace by leading the first six laps. On lap seven, Lawver, who has shown great ability to run the outside groove, passed Riedner on the outside for the lead and held the lead the rest of way and picked up the victory. Following Lawver at the stripe were Riedner, Ryan Goldade of Stoughton, Jay Kalbus of Oconomowoc, and Mark Deporter of Fort Atkinson. Heat winners were Riedner and Lawver with Goldade setting fast time with a lap of 20.767 or 86.676 mph. Gary Cerny of Janesville was victorious in the Rockweiler Insulation Midwest Truck Series twenty lap feature event. Bryan Pautsch of Sun Prairie and Chris Stocks led the field of seven trucks to the line. It was Pautsch who took the early lead and held it for the first seven laps before Cerny powered by and took the top spot for good. Cerny was followed at the line by Garrett Goth of Cottage Grove, Vince Wilkinson of Sandwich, Illinois, Dann Barber of Oregon, and Todd Schmitz of Verona. Cerny also picked up the heat win and Wilkinson set fast time with a lap of 19.503 or 92.293 mph. Racing action continues at Madison International Speedway on Tuesday, June 28 with the Miller Classic. Hot laps begin at 1:00 PM with qualifying at 5:00 and racing at 7:30. There will be no racing at MIS on Friday, July 1.
