COX, CLAUSEN AND SUTHERLAND ROCK AT ROCKFORD By: Kevin Ramsell Sunday, June 19, 2005 (Loves Park, IL) ? The Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series made their annual visit to the Rockford Speedway. The fans saw great racing action from Winged Sprints as well as the Modifieds from Hawkeye Downs and our own Hornet division. Tim Cox made a daring last lap pass to take home the 40-lap feature for the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series. Greg Wheeler jumped out to the early lead. Jason Fuller and Cox started on the third row and started to work their way to the front. Wheeler held on to the lead until lap 22 when Fuller got on the inside Wheeler and took over the top spot. Cox had to work his way past defending winner Hank Lower for second with 10 laps to go. Cox had his car hooked up and was able to charge his way towards the front. The lap traffic became a factor for the leader as this allowed Cox to catch his teammate, Fuller. As the white flag flew, Cox got on the inside of Fuller going into turn one. Fuller was able to hold off Cox as they went down the backstretch. But as the two came into turn three, Fuller had nothing but lap traffic in front of him. This allowed Cox to sneak on the inside of Fuller in turns three and four and take the checkered flag. This was Cox?s second feature win in a row in the HOSS Series. Fuller held on to second with Wheeler coming home third. Jeff Bloom and Lower rounded out the top five. ?I see my partner beating on his steering wheel, but you got to take them when you can.? A happy Tim Cox said in victory lane. Fuller set a new track record with a time of 11.620 seconds (77.45 mph). Larry Clausen took home a big feature win in the Miller Time IMCA Asphalt Modified division. Clausen started on the pole and grabbed the early lead and was challenged by Tim Plummer. Clausen led all 30-laps but was closely challenged by Plummer. Shawn Stinger had a spirited battle with Jim Hanson for third place. About halfway through, Stinger was able to get past Hanson for the position. At the checkers Plummer tried to get on the inside of Clausen coming off of turn four, but Clausen was able to win by a car length. Jarrod Sutherland took home the 13-lap Hornet Swarm. Sutherland started on the outside of the front row and grabbed the lead. Sutherland held off a strong challenge from Chad Kiefer to take home the win. On the last lap, Nick Lasher had a wild ride on the backstretch as his Hornet rolled over on its roof. He was able to walk away. Full Throttle Wednesday returns with a full racing program featuring the Grand Nationals, Figure 8's, Winged Women on Wheels, and RoadRunner divisions. Plus, we will also have the Shine-N-Show Car Show. Next Saturday night is Kid's Night with Children 11 and under admitted FREE. Plus there will be Kid's Boxcar Races and Face Painting. It will be a full night of racing with the Legends, Bandoleros, Allison Legacy and Super Cup joining the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series program.
