REYNOLDS JR TOPS ROCKFORD AGAIN By: Kevin Ramsell Saturday, June 18, 2005 (Loves Park, IL) - It was "Craftsman Improve Your Home Night" at the Rockford Speedway. Jon Reynolds Jr, BJ Sparkman, and Dan Carlson captured the feature wins. Jon Reynolds Jr captured the "Craftsman" 30-lap feature for the NASCAR late model division. Bill Hobson grabbed the lead at the start of the event. Bobby Wilberg started on the outside of the second row and quickly started to look for a way to take over the top spot. Wilberg tried for five laps to get on the inside of Hobson. On lap 10, the two made contact coming out of turn two. Wilberg got loose and Hobson went on the inside. They touched again going into turn three and both spun in the middle of turns three and four, bringing out the only caution of the event. This gave the lead over to Brett McCoy. On the re-start, Mike Beyer jumped the start and took over the top spot. NASCAR officials penalized Beyer two spots for jumping the start. This handed the lead over to Jon Reynolds, Jr. Reynolds started in the 11th spot and had the lead at the halfway mark. Reynolds would go on to his fourth checkered flag of the season. Current point leader, Ricky Bilderback finished second. Beyer finished third. Jerry Gille and Matt Berger rounded out the top five. BJ Sparkman made his fifth visit to victory lane in the Budweiser American Short Tracker division. Tim Steger grabbed the early lead in the "Craftsman" 25-lap feature event. BJ started on the outside of second row and quickly worked his way towards the front. On lap 4, BJ got on the inside of Steger to take over the top spot. On lap 5, George Sparkman got together with Jack Atchison causing Atchison to spin in turns three and four. Atchison was sideways and caused a traffic jam in the middle of the turns. Everyone was able to continue. BJ continued to lead at the re-start and was closely challenged by Jason Evans. Evans wasn?t able to get close enough to BJ as he led the field to the checkered flag. Aaron Rude, Nick Cina Jr and Dave Wagner rounded out the top five. Dan Carlson took home the top honors in the Coca Cola RoadRunner division. Steven Clark jumped out to the lead as the green flag dropped. Tom Flippo Jr. got on the inside Clark to take over the top spot on lap 5. Gene Marocco also got past Clark to take over second. A lap later, Marocco got on the inside of Flippo for the top spot. Carlson started in the ninth position and by lap 9, he moved up to the fourth position. Carlson continued to work his way towards the front as he was in second place by lap 12. With 5 laps to go, the caution flew for multi spins in turns one and two. On the re-start, Carlson got on the inside of Marocco to challenge for the top spot. Carlson took over the lead with three laps to go and would go on to his fifth feature win of the season. Marocco would hold on to second. Gilbert Brewer, Chad Smith and Dan Sander rounded out the top five.
