Posted by Kankakee Speedway on 6/20/2005, 11:14 am It was Dauber -- who moved from third to first with five laps to go on the top side of the track who grabbed the checkered flag this time. And it was Provanzano -- using the low side who took second with a last lap pass of Galll, who had led most of the way in the middle groove. "It was just a last ditch effort," Dauber said of his rocketing pass. "He (Gall) was busy racing Provanzano and I just kind of snuck past them." Gall had his hands full with Russ Scheffler of Waukesha, Wisc. in the early going while Dauber was third. In the middle of the field, Provanzano was coming through the pack, finally moving to fourth after seven laps. It took him seven more to grab third, and he finally passed Scheffler to go to second with 21 laps remaining. Scheffler wound up fourth, with fellow northerner Jayme Zider finishing a remarkable fifth. The Zider performance deserves accolades because he ran the last half of the race with a broken tie rod his left front wheel was unusable. It was aimed directly to the left and he steered with the right front only. Dan Hamstra won his third straight feature in the Open-Wheel Modifieds and earned an extra $100 in the process. It was the track's annual "topless" night for the Late Models, but officials offered the extra cash to the feature winner in each division, if he was driving a "convertible" on this night. Randy Akers won his first Street Stock feature and set himself up as a favorite in the rare $1,000-to-win Josh Kohler Memorial event set for June 24.
