Morrissey Wins ASL Valvoline Instant Oil Change 150 at MIS Storlie Wins Round One of Super Truck Triple Crown Series Oregon (WI)- Andrew Morrissey of DeForest, Wisconsin, captured the ASL Valvoline Instant Oil Change 150 at Madison International Speedway on Saturday night. Morrissey, who already has a super late model feature win to his credit at MIS in 2005, started seventh in the sixteen car field. “It feels great,” said a jubilant Morrissey from victory lane. Jacob Dolhun of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and West Salem, Wisconsin’s Steve Carlson started in the front row for the Valvoline Instant Oil Change 150. Carlson wasted no time going to the front with John Vig Jr. right behind him. Ryan Mathews of Lake Geneva worked his way through the field and by lap fifteen was right on Carlson’s tail. The caution flag came out on lap nineteen when Jarit Johnson of El Cajon, California, spun on the backstretch. Carlson held the lead following the restart but quickly relinquished it to Bryan Reffner of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. One lap later Andrew Morrissey passed Carlson for second and started to work on the lead of Reffner. Reffner and Morrissey quickly distanced themselves from the field opening up a sizeable advantage over their fellow competitors. On lap fifty Morrissey was able to surpass Reffner and claim the lead. After lap seventy-five the competition yellow came out with the field taking ten minutes for a pit stop. Morrisey was followed by Reffner, Mathews, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Georgia, and Carlson. Carlson was assessed a one-lap penalty for removing a tire to change breaks during the ten minute pit stop. When racing action resumed it was Morrissey and Reffner continuing to battle it out for the lead. Making an impressive run behind the leaders was Davenport who passed Mathews for third on lap ninety. As Morrissey was increasing his lead to a full straight away, the best battle on the track was between Reffner and Davenport for second. Davenport attempted to pass Reffner on lap one hundred forty but was unable to do so after the two made contact. For Morrissey it was smooth sailing to the checkered flag as he picked up the win in the Valvoline Instant Oil Change 150. Following Morrissey were Reffner, Davenport, Mathews, and Trevor Stewart of St. Augusta, Minnesota. Reffner set fast time in the ASL division with a lap of 19.783 (90.99 mph). Point leader Mark Storlie proved why he is the man to beat in the Mid Am Super Truck Series as he picked up the checkered flag in the forty lap Triple Crown Series event. Nineteen Mid-American Super Trucks started the feature with Fred Oswald of Lake Mills and John Vig Jr. of Shakopee, Minnesota starting in the front row. It was Oswald grabbing the early lead and holding the point until lap nine when Vig Jr. took over the point. Mid American Super Truck point leader Mark Storlie of Elko, Minnesota, quickly made his way through the field and by lap eleven was in second and ready to challenge Vig Jr. for the lead. On lap sixteen MIS point leader Dann Barber of Oregon passed Storlie on the outside and two laps later made a similar pass of Vig Jr. for the lead. Vinny Wilkinson of Sandwich, Illinois, moved his way up through the field and into third place with Butch Miller of Mooresville, North Carolina, up to fourth place. The first caution of the race came out on the twenty-third lap for a spin in turn four. Following the caution, Storlie wasted no time in getting to the front as he passed Barber for the lead on lap twenty-four. Barber stayed right with Storlie the rest of the way but was unable to catch him. Following Storlie and Barber were Wilkinson, Miller, and Tony Holm of Prior Lake, Minnesota. Holm set fast time with a lap of 19.370 (92.93 mph). Heat winners were Larry Fitzsimmons of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Austin Siebert of Lake Lotawana, Missouri. Racing continues at MIS on Friday, June 24, with the Gordie Boucher Big Boom Night at the races. Action will take place in all four divisions: Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models, Bryden Motors Super Late Models, Rockweiler Insulation Midwest Truck Series, and the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman. Highlighting the evening will be the Big Boom 75 for the ASA Late Models. In addition to the exciting racing action, Gordie Boucher of Janesville will also be presenting the area’s top fireworks display. Grandstands open at 4:30, hot laps at 4:45, qualifying at 6:30 with racing at 8:00 PM.
