Miller Classic Coming to MIS on June 28th
by John Wells
Oregon (WI)
Steve Einhaus announced today that plans are being finalized for the MARS race on the 17th of June and the Miller Classic on the 28th. "This month is going to be a huge month for super late models in Wisconsin with all of the specials that are out there. The fans will have plenty of exciting events to attend all summer long and we want to make sure they add this one to their list," commented Einhaus.
The Midwest All-Star Racing Series (MARS) will hit the speedway on Friday, June 17 for the Quaker Steak and Lube 100. A second non-points event will take place on Tuesday, June 28 as part of the Miller Classic. Einhaus added, "I tried to come up with something that gives everyone the incentive to race on the 17th and also give them something to fall back on for the always tough Miller Classic."
Einhaus is referring to a provisional program that he came up with for those that run on Friday, June 17. "I will be giving three provisionals for the Miller Classic 150 based off of finishing positions from the June 17th race. If a guy has difficulty in qualifying for the Miller Classic and doesn't make it in through the last chance race, I will go back to the finishing order from the 17th and give provisionals based on the three highest finishers who failed to qualify for the Classic," said Einhaus.
Einhaus also stated, "From the discussions that I have had with the drivers, it seems to take a little bit of pressure off of the guys knowing that if they miss their setup for the Miller Classic they will be rewarded based of a previous finish.
"It's a heck of an important race to make for our team and I think it's also great that Steve is rewarding those that support MIS," said MIS co-point leader Jeff Storm of Waterford.
The historic Miller Classic will be a Twin 75 format for a total of 150 laps. Each team will be allowed four new tires for this event. There will be a competition yellow with a ten minute break at lap 75 where drivers can adjust their cars, fuel up, rotate tires, and prepare for the second segment. The winner of the first segment will receive a bonus of $500.00 and draw for a 1-6 invert to establish the starting positions for the second segment.
In the past the Miller Classic has been frequented by various NASCAR stars. This year will be no different as the event is titled "The Return of the Champions." Drivers such as Ted Musgrave, Scott Wimmer, Chris Wimmer, Todd Kluever, Tim Sauter, Johnny Sauter, and Rich Bickle will headline the special guest list for this event.
Also on the racing card will be the Big Eight Limited Late Model Series with their thirty-eight lap feature event. A large field of cars is expected with both Tim and Johnny Sauter among those trying to make the field.
MIS will again offer a VIP ticket program that will include a VIP dinner with the champions, VIP parking, a VIP question and answer session, autograph signing, and grandstand admission all for $100.00. Tickets will be limited and can be purchased at the main ticket office or by calling 608.835.9700.
Pit gates on the 28th will open at 10:00 AM with practice to begin at 1:00 PM for the super late models. Qualifying begins at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:30 PM. Entry forms for the Miller Classic will be available by June 5th online, via email or by direct mail.
