Haseleu Makes It Two in a Row at MIS: Wilberg, Wilkinson, and DePorter Also Notch Victories Nate Haseleu made it two in a row in the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models while Bobby Wilberg in the Bryden Motors Super Late Models, Vince Wilkinson in the Rockweiler Insulation Midwest Truck Series, and Mark DePorter in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman division were also feature winners at Nextel / Radcom Wireless and CARQUEST Night at Madison International Speedway. Arlington’s Nate Haseleu made it two in a row in the Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Models with another late race pass for the win. “That was hard racing,”said Haseleu, who acknowledged the tight battle between he and Winnebago, Illinois’ Tom Gille. Jesse Saunders of Janesville and Ryan Hanson of Beloit started in the front row for the thirty-five lap feature for twenty-four ASA Late Models. Hanson held the early lead until Jeff Watters of Mineral Point overtook him on lap six. Gille passed Watters on lap sixteen and immediately opened up a seven car advantage over the field until a caution flag came out on lap sixteen for a spin in turn two. Following the restart Gille wasted no time in increasing his lead over Chad Wood of Madison. The caution flag came out again on lap eighteen with Gille still able to maintain a sold lead over the competition following the restart. Contact between the second and third place cars of Chad Wood of Madison and Saunders brought out the caution on lap twenty-five moving Haseleu and Necedah’s Travis Sauter up to second and third respectively. Haseleu made his move on Gille on lap thirty-one as he made an inside pass for the lead only to have it negated due to a caution. The only question that remained was would Gille be able to hold off Haseleu. On lap thirty-four Gille drifted up the track following contact between the leaders coming out of turn two which was all Haseleu needed to get to the front and come home the winner. Following Haseleu in the top five were Sauter, Bobby Wilberg of Orfordville, Gille, and Jared Ziegler of Madison. Heat winners were JD Leonard of Brodhead, John Wood of Madison, and Ziegler. The Wayne’s Custom DIECAST Fast Dash was won by Sauter. Bobby Wilberg of Orfordville picked up his first Bryden Motors Super Late Model feature win of the season in the forty lap feature event. Wilberg, a long-time competitor at MIS, summed up his thrilling victory by saying,“This is just hard racing…That’s what people come here to see.” Jeff Storm of Waterford and Jared Ziegler of Madison led the field of seventeen Bryden Motors Super Late Models to the green flag in their forty lap feature event. Ziegler claimed the early lead and held a narrow edge over Storm as the two battled side by side. Following a caution on lap eleven for a spin in turn two, Ziegler was able to maintain his lead until lap fourteen when Storm passed him on the inside and Ziegler quickly dropped to fifth two laps later. Meanwhile, DeForest’s Andrew Morrissey was right there to challenge Storm for the top spot followed by Bill Baumeister of Janesville and Bobby Wilberg of Orfordville. Storm continued to hold the lead over Morrissey until the caution flag waved on lap eighteen for a spin. Storm held down the top spot once racing continued until lap twenty five when Morrissey passed him for the lead with Wilberg up to challenge Baumeister for third. On lap twenty- seven, Wilberg passed Baumeister for second after Storm had dropped off the pace. Wilberg quickly set his sights on Morrissey and on lap thirty-eight passed him for the lead and cruised to victory. A last lap pass put Jeremy Miller of Rockton, Illinois in second followed by Morrissey, Scott Ollerman of Marshall, and Baumeister. Heat races were won by Brian Johnson Jr. of Roscoe, Illinois and Ollerman. Wilberg once again set fast time with a lap of 17.938 or 100.346 mph. . Vince Wilkinson of Sandwich, Illinois, won his first ever feature at MIS in the Rockweiler Insulation Midwest Truck Series. “I love coming up here. I have always liked this track and am happy to be able to race here,” said Wilkinson who makes the two and one-half hour drive to MIS each week. Starting on the pole in the fifteen lap feature, Wilkinson was able to lead wire to wire by holding off all-time feature winner Charlie Cottam. Cottam was able to close the gap before spinning on the front stretch on lap eighteen allowing Wilkinson to easily pick up the checkered flag. Garrett Goth of Cottage Grove finished second followed by Gary Cerny of Janesville, Scott Bleecker of Madison, and Dann Barber of Oregon. Wilkinson also won the heat race with Barber setting fast time with a lap of 19.540 (92.119 mph.) A thrilling last lap pass by Mark DePorter of Fort Atkinson earned him his second feature win in a row in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman division. “I love this place and I’m getting better and better and every week,” said a jubilant DePorter from victory lane. The eleven car fifteen-lap feature event was paced by the front row of Mark English of Janesville and Scott Lawver of Roscoe, Illinois. The car with the early speed turned out to be Janesville’s Josh Courtney who vaulted to the lead. However, Courtney couldn’t hold off English who regained the top spot and held it until DePorter was able to pass him on the last lap. Heat races were won by Cliff Rucks of Cottage Grove and DePorter. Dean Hackl of Madison set fast time with a lap of 20.956 (85.894 mph). Next week at Madison International Speedway will be Tech Stain Remover Night with action in all four racing divisions. Pit gates open at 4:00, hot laps at 5:00, qualifying at 6:30 with racing at 8:00 PM.
