REYNOLDS JR, CARLSON, NASON, WAGNER WIN AT ROCKFORD By: Kevin Ramsell Saturday, May 28, 2005 (Loves Park, IL) ? The weatherman said it was supposed to rain, but instead it was blue skies and a great night of racing. Jon Reynolds Jr. debuted his new body with new colors tonight. He wanted to get some picture of it and he got it in victory lane. Reynolds started on the outside of the front row and took off from the rest of the field. The fans were keeping a close eye on the continuing saga between Ricky Bilderback and Bobby Wilberg. They started 8th and 10th respectively and worked their way towards the front. The first caution flew with 6 laps to go when Bill Hobson spun in turns one and two. This allowed Wilberg and Bilderback to catch up to Reynolds. The final caution flew with three laps to go when Bob Kahler spun in turn three. Reynolds was able to hold off the track champs for his second feature win of the season. The victory was dedicated to a personal friend he lost this past week. The best race of the night was the final race in the Coca Cola RoadRunner division between Dan Carlson and Gilbert Brewer. Carlson started 10th and worked his way towards the front. Ronald Stoltz had the early lead in the event with Brewer in second. The first caution flew on lap 1 when Greg Pruitt hit the turn one wall. Brewer got on the inside of Stoltz on lap 7 and took over the top spot. A lap later, Stoltz and Derek Nichol made contact in turns three and four. Stoltz spun and caused a melee in the turns. After the cleanup, it was Brewer in the lead. Carlson worked his way up to second and on lap 12 he got on the inside of Brewer and the two battled side-by-side all the way to the checkered flag. When the dust settled, it was Carlson taking home his second straight feature victory. Fred Nason captured the main event in the Grand National division. Nason started on the pole and was challenged by points leader Travis Eldridge. The only caution of the event came on lap 5 when Darrell Garmen got in the back of Doug Bennett coming off of turn two. This caused Bennett to spin. Both were sent to the rear. Eldridge started in the eighth position and worked his way towards the front. He climbed to second with 10 laps to go. Nason did a great job holding off the points leader for the win. The father-son team of Dave and Brock Behnke finished third and fourth respectively. Dave Wagner made his first visit to victory lane in the Budweiser American Short Tracker Feature event. Wagner started on the pole and took off to a huge lead in the 25-lap main event. The event went caution free until 10-laps to go when Aaron Rude and Brian Harder made contact on the front stretch. Rude hit the front stretch wall and was done for the night. With 8 laps to go, AST points leader Don Russell made contact with Scott Dolliver coming off of turn four. Russell had a flat right rear tire. During the caution his pit crew was able to change the tire and get him back out to a 10th place finish. Wagner had an easy drive to the checkered flag. B J Sparkman came home second while Jason Evans finished third. Steve Cavin had a great run to come home fourth. On Friday night the Hornets ran as part of Friday Night Fright. Chad Peavy took the lead from Mark Vicencio on the final lap to win the Hornet Swarm. Also that night, Deb Johnson was driving in the Diesel Divas in the school bus race. After the checkered flag, she was pushed into the wall and her bus rolled over. Johnson walked out of the back of the bus and was ok. Next Saturday night is Parent Petroleum/Turbo Blue Racing Fuel Night at the races featuring the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series. The Wednesday night racing program starts on Wednesday, June 8th.
