ASALM Touring Series Comes to MIS by John Wells and ASA Late Model Series Staff Oregon (WI) May 22, 2005 The ASA Late Model Touring Series will be at Madison International Speedway this Friday night (May 27) for the Bryden Motors 100. This will be the touring series' only visit to MIS in 2005. The ASALM cars are no strangers to Madison as MIS is the only track in the United States that runs a weekly ASALM division following the series rules as they are written. "Last week we had over thirty cars for our weekly Weaver Auto Parts ASA Late Model division. Things are really taking off in this series," stated MIS promoter Steve Einhaus. "We have been really looking forward to the national touring series coming to Madison," said Einhaus. "Ron Varney (ASALM President) has done an outstanding job with this series. The interest in this series goes much beyond the midwest. Look for big things from the ASALM Touring Series not only this year but for years to come," added Einhaus. Bryden Motors, a certified Daimler Chrysler Five Star Dealership in Beloit will be sponsoring this event. "We are really excited to participate as a sponsor for this ASA Late Model Series event," said Scott Lawver, manager of the Bryden Motors Quick Lube Division. Bryden Motors is also the series sponsor for both the Super Late Models and Area Sportsman racing weekly at MIS. "We are expecting a large and very competitive field of cars for this race. Not only will the national touring drivers be competing, but many of our weekly teams will also be taking a shot," noted Einhaus. Those drivers include Nathan Haseleu who won last Friday night's thirty-five lap feature with a thrilling last lap pass of Jeff Watters of Mineral Point. This will be the second event of the season for the ASA Late Model Series. In addition to Madison, the series will also compete at Illiana and Rockford in Illinois, I-70 in Missouri, Kalamazoo and Calhoun in Michigan, Hawkeye Downs in Iowa, Jennerstown in Pennsylvania, Mansfield and Sandusky in Ohio, and IRP and Baer Field in Indiana. The series will return to Wisconsin on October 7 with an appearance at the LaCrosse County Fairgrounds. Stephen Leicht of Asheville, North Carolina, is the current point leader. Following Leicht are Kris Stump of Tipp City, Ohio, Brian Campbell of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Scott Baker of Akron, Ohio, and defending series champion Bobby Stremme of South Bend, Indiana. Stremme is the younger brother of Busch Series driver David Stremme. In addition to the ASALM Touring Series there will be action in the Rockweiler Insulation Midwest Truck Series and the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman division. Charlie Cottam of Janesville, who recently won his thirty-third career feature, is the points leader in the trucks with Carey Hensel looking to make it three feature wins in a row in the Area Sportsman.
