Saturday, May 14, 2005 (Loves Park, IL) ? The weather was cool, but the racing on the track kept the fans warm at Rockford Speedway. Jon Reynolds Jr. came home with his second feature win of the season by taking the USG 30-lap feature event. Bob Kahler took the early lead in the event. Ryan Carlson was scheduled to compete in the ASA Late Model Series event in Michigan, but the event was rained out and he hurried back to race, took over the second spot. Reynolds fell back to third after starting in the second spot. Reynolds was working on the inside of Carlson on lap 15, when he got a great run into turn three and was able to get past both Carlson and Kahler for the top spot. Ricky Bilderback started in the eighth position and worked his way towards the front. He got past Carlson for second with two laps to go, but didn?t have enough time to catch Reynolds who went on to take the checkered flag. ?This was a tough race, I had to work hard to get past Carlson. It?s a great win for us.? Reynolds stated in victory lane. Gene Marocco started on the inside of the second row of the 20-lap Coca Cola RoadRunner feature event. The most experienced driver at Rockford used his patience to take home his second feature win of the season. Chad Smith started on the pole and took the early lead in the event. Marocco challenged for the top spot throughout the race. Marocco was looking for the right time to make his move. On the last lap, both Smith and Marocco had lap traffic in front of them. Marocco took advantage of the lap traffic by getting past Smith on the inside of turns one and two. Marocco was able to get a car length lead to take home his second win. George Sparkman took home his first feature win of the season in the Budweiser American Short Tracker feature event. Sparkman held off his brother BJ for the win. George started on the outside of the front row and never looked back. The best battle of the night came late in the race where Jason Evans held off John Cina Jr for third place. Michael Bilderback passed Nick Shutkas on lap 9 to win the 20-lap Legends feature event. Dwight Dunlap held off Steve Erickson to win the Bandolero feature. Next Saturday night is Dodge?s Kids Night at the Rockford Speedway. All kids 11 and under will get free admission with a paid adult admission.
