MIKE BEYER WINS BIG 8 LATE MODEL SERIES OPENER Rockford, Illinois (April 2, 2005)—Mike Beyer won the opening event of the Big 8 Late Model Series, Saturday night at Rockford (Ill.) Speedway on the opening night of the 28th annual Spring Classic Weekend presented by Chicago International Truck, Bachrodt Auto Group and Yellow Book. “This is such a huge win,” said Beyer. “We struggled with this car all day. We had four setups and my dad told me to just do what I feel is right; and it worked.” Jon Reynolds, Jr led the first nine circuits before Beyer was able to work under the second generation driver. Ricky Bilderback used the opening made by Beyer to shoot to the second spot. Beyer held Bilderback at bay for the rest of the race to score the impressive win. “Ricky is a great driver and I knew he’d run me clean at the end,” said Beyer. Bilderback settled for runner-up honors while Reynolds placed third. Bobby Davis spun in the third turn of the last lap and collected Dexter Bean, as well as fourth running Bobby Wilberg. The melee allowed Ryan Carlson to move up to fourth at the finish with Tony Bagstad claiming the fifth spot. Big 8 Late Model Series heats were won by John Ovadal, Jr, Kyle Melvin, Bagstad and Beyer while Wilberg was the evening’s fastest qualifier. Bobby Davis, Greg Bowers and Nick Wendt all transferred to the Big 8 Late Model Series main event through the 15-lap last chance race as a total of thirty five entrants attempted to qualify for this event. The Big 8 Series returns to action on Sunday afternoon May 1 at Madison International Speedway in conjunction with the Wisconsin Challenge Series.
