American Stockcar League meeting planned Saturday, Feb. 5 in Janesville, Wisconsin JANESVILLE, WI -- A meeting for ASA National Tour car owners is planned at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Best Western Hotel in Janesville, WI to discuss the formation of a new Midwestrn circuit for the cars on paved tracks in a four to five state area. The proposed name for the new racing series is the American Stockcar League and the events would be coordinated through the Mid-American Stock Car Series, Inc. of Baileys Harbor, WI. The Mid-American Stock Car Series currently sanctions over 50 paved track races a year featuring four divisions (Midwest Allstar Late Models, Mid-American Stock Cars, Mid-Am Super Trucks and Midwest Stock Car Classics. The meeting is open to all race teams, race tracks, race drivers and sponsors interested in forming a series for the 2005 season. "We've been contacted by a number of teams that race in one of our current divisions or have raced with us in the past. Some have 3/4 of a million dollars tied up in race teams and nowhere to race their cars this year," said Mid-American Series President Gary Vercauteren. "We've talked to eight race tracks that are interested in 2005 events with these cars so I'd say we should be able to put together a schedule of 8 to 10 races," he added. Veteran ASA driver Rick Bebee said his team was interested in the new series. "It's important that something happens this year," Bebee said. "Otherwide most of these teams are headed to different divisions," he added. "I'll be at every race if a ten race schedule can be put together," Bebee continued. "I think we have to start over and rebuild this series," Bebee pointed out. "I've got an ASA Tour car and hope we can race it in 2005," Bebee said. "I don't think there would be a problem getting 24 to 30 cars together for some races this year," said Jim Randerson, president of RanderCar Racing in Appleton, WI. Randerson has been in contact with many of the ASA car owners and said the general feeling is to run events of 150 laps or less to keep the costs down for the teams. "We have to be realistic with what race track promoters are willing to pay for this division. At this point the car owners are looking for any help they can get from sponsors. We intend on setting up a schedule that does not conflict with the ASA Late Model division and the Midwest AllStar Late Models because a number of the teams we've been talking to have plans to race in one of those two series in 2005," Vercauteren stated. "There are over 100 of these cars in the Midwest. It would be a shame if they stand idle," he noted. The Best Western Hotel is located just off Interstate 90 at exit 171-A.
