Bob Fiorito
Growing up in and around the demolition derby competition at Santa Fe Speedway near Willow Springs, Fiorito was a big fan of the demo action that his dad competed in. From demo competition to stock car racing, Fiorito became a fan of Santa Fe’s entire speedway picture. Opening in 1953, the track closed its doors for good after the 1995 season.
Several years ago, “Santa Fe Bob” created the website(www.santafespeedwaymemories.com), which paid tribute to the competitors and remembered Chicagoland’s “track of clay.” Hundreds of drivers and crewmen, along with fans, had signed the website’s “guest book.” Photos, along with comments and stories from various contributors, have kept the memory of Santa Fe Speedway alive.
