Posted by Crown Point Speedway on 9/20/2004, 1:59 pm Of course, there was good news, too. Phil Line sewed up the Open-Wheel Modified championship his first title in 19 years of racing. He ran third behind feature winner Kevin Hastings and runnerup Terry Hull, but locked out Bill Davis, who is now a distant second in the points battle. The disappointment and driveshaft problem belong to Jay Feeney. He was leading the Late Model feature when the shaft snapped in half, lifting the car off the ground as it broke loose. Brett Sievert went on for the win, but said in the winners circle, I feel bad for Jay, cause we sure didnt have anything for him especially on the low side. Shawn Toczek was right on Sieverts bumper the whole way and Russ Scheffler was third, followed by Rick Scheffler and Scott Martin. The axle-breaking ended the night for Dale Lueth in the Modifieds. He broke Tony Rolands mark of 13.746, qualifying with the new track record time of 13.650. The Late Models did some record-breaking of their own. Sievert erased Toczeks mark of 12.708, with a time of 12.694. Minutes later, Russ Scheffler clocked in at 12.579. In the Street Stocks, Jay Hamilton took advantage of his pole position and was unchallenged in his feature win. Kevin Lenzen was second and Bill Wise finished third. In the Mini-Stocks, Peter Hayes notched another win with Jason Bitterling second. CROWN POINTERS Saturday, Sept. 25 is the final night for points, but racing continues. The highlight of the post-season will be a $2,000 special for Street Stocks and Late Models on Oct. 2
.. Hayes and Hamilton made clean sweeps, but people are talking about Tony Littrell who made his debut in the Minis with a heat win and a third in the feature. In the Street Stocks the buzz is about the Joe Underwood wreck that sent a tire flying into the windshield of the Jay Morris car. No one was hurt.
