Local Driver Receives Multiple Awards at Racing Banquet
Elwood, IL---Dave Gentile Jr. was honored at the 2005 Madison International Speedway (MIS) Banquet in Verona, WI on January 21, 2006. 2005 was Gentile’s first year at MIS & in the highly competitive ASA Late Model Division. Gentile finished a very impressive seventh in overall points and was awarded Rookie of the Year. Gentile was also chosen for the tracks Sportsman of the Year, an honor presented to just one driver out of almost 150 participants that competed regularly in the four weekly divisions. Gentile has a very remarkable background. In 2004, not only did Gentile race at both Illiana Motor Speedway and Grundy County Speedway in the Mid American Division, he was also crowned track champion at Grundy and finished second in points at Illiana, an accomplishment not many drivers have been able to achieve. “Our goal at the beginning of the 2005 season was to move up to a different division. My team and I decided to move up to late models after winning the championship in 2004. Madison is a track that offered the ASA Late Model Division. It is also a track with seasoned drivers that we could learn from. Racing along side drivers like Brian Reffner, Chad Wood, Nathan Haseleu & Bobby Wilberg was amazing. Rookie of the Year was a nice bonus, and Sportsman of the Year was an even bigger surprise. It’s a huge honor,” says Gentile. Gentile was also randomly selected as the JE Pro Seal Rings Overall Contingency Connection Sportsman of the Year winner, with which he received additional awards. In 2006, Gentile plans to run at Illiana Motor Speedway, as well as a limited schedule in the ASA Late Model Northern Series. He has his eyes set on running the ASA Late Model Challenge Series, a national tour which is set to be televised on Outdoor Channel, but is still in the process of looking for primary sponsor.
