Hi Martyn
Just done mine on '93 V6 Auto - essentially the same.
Take a deep breath - it's a b###h of a job renault quote 9 hours for LHD - they don't tell you that for RHD you have to drop steering column and pedal ass'y etc. If I'd have known , I'd have sold the car in the Summer !
Seriously, the dash, wiring front console has to come out. However, haynes / French manuals tell you to take the heater box and console out - TOTALLY uneccessary, as on a RHD car, the matrix comes out from the RIGHT. Which in turn means column, pedals etc, out. There is a trade off, as you then don't have to touch or remove the LH side fascia, ducting and etc. I am also pretty certain that you won't have to take out the dash cross member - that in itself is a real mission.
As long as you record what goes where, it's fairly straightforward, if somewhat lengthy proceedure. The real pain is that when you get down to removing the matrix - it takes less than 2 minutes.!!!!! Tip - try local factors for Matrix - around £95 instead of Renault rip off prices - also same source for the "O" rings [ x 2 ] Renault price £10.56 trade - local factors
- £2,50.
It took me 2 leisurely days [ nearly 2 heart attacks and pulling out of hair ]- but it's something a fairly competent machanic could tackle.
Replacement will give you a heater that works properly and a demister that clears the windscreen instead of blowing steam on it! It'll also stop you wondering where the water is coming from on your front carpets [ !! ] and why you have to keep topping up water - ie "where's it going to?"
Good luck
