Second Opionions

I have asked my Oncologist to set up a referral to a breast cancer specialist at a larger research hospital. I have no idea what this entails. When going for a second opinion what should I expect? Do I switch my care over to the new Oncologist or take their recommendations back home to my current Oncologist? Will I have just one consultation and come home or expect to stay several days, weeks, ect...?
