Carol,
I was diagnosed with Bone Mets from the start (back in March of last year). At the time of diagnoses I was a healthy, active 38 year old women. I have been getting monthly Zometa infusions in addition to taking Caltrate +D every day since my diagnoses.
My onc was/is so terrified that I am going to fracture my hip/pelvis/femurs that he tries to limit my activities. No hiking, no heavy weight bearing excercises, no step aerobics, no running, blah, blah, blah.
Needless to say as soon as I felt well enough, I was out and about doing all those things he told me not to do. So far I have been lucky enough not to have broken anything, but I do know that the possibility is there.
Did you have/are you done with chemo treatments? Are you getting any type of bone infusion such as Bonevia or Zometa to help rebuild the bones? Have you talked with your onc about taking a supplement such as Caltrate D to help rebuild your bones? There are meds out there to help strengthen your bones so make sure you discuss them with your onc.
I'm fairly certain your bones will heal, its just a matter of time. If you are still going through chemo its going to take a bit longer and if you are older it may take a bit longer also.
Good luck to you! I remember at the beginning of my treatment when my bones were so detoriated and hurt so incredibly much that I had to use a walker/wheelchair to get around. It sucked! I guess thats why now that I am feeling better I'm going to do whatever activites I like reqardless of what the doc says.
