Sorry April did not see your posting until just now.
First time I had B/C (left breast) it was stage II with invasive duct cancer. After the lumpectomy the tissue around the cancer came back clear. I took 4 rounds of A/C chemo and 35 rounds of radiation treatment. I was on Femara aterwards.
In Jan. or Feb 2011 my breast turned real red and was hot. The Oncologist surgeon said it looked to be an infection so put me on antibodics.
Then in April 2011 I felt a lump on the underside(breast cancer was on the top part) of that breast. Went in and did a mammagram and the Onc said it appeared to be a cyst but they would watch it.
Well, went in for my regular mammagram on both breast in July 2011 and something appeared right above where the lumpectomy was. The Onco did a biopsy and got the phone call it was invasive breast cancer again.
I could not feel it because it was connected to the scar tissue and even though the Onc had me to massage the scar tissue it just felt the same to me.
The first time the mammagram(January 2009) did not pick up the cancer I found the lump in Aug.2009 but the second time the mammagram picked it up and I did not feel anything different.
I just finished up 4 rounds of chemo(1 1/2 wks ago) T/C and during this I've been doing the fills for the reconstruction. Not sure that was smart on my part because the chemo has been pretty rough.
Big thing is...make sure mammagrams/self examinations are in your lives.
Pray and hope 2012 is better for all of us
Ruby
PS: my hubby said that when I'm through with this we were going to go on an extended vacation
. Shortly after I had the double mastectomy he hit his head and was in intensive care with brain bleed! 2011 was a very trying time but we are here at least
