Hi Peg! Yep its me, still living in LA, Burbank to be exact. I was ER/PR & HER2+ last time as well as this time. Been on Tamox since April of 07. All my scans came back neg (phew! yay!) so we are looking at a local recurrence (1cm as opposed to the 10cm whopper from last time) pretty much in the exact spot as the last tumor. It's so close to the scar tissue we were hoping that's what it was. Oh well.
I am participating in a national clinical trial that is doing a second lumpectomy and very targeted radiation to just the tumor site only. As you know standard of care in a recurrence after lumpectomy/rads is usually a mast. I decided to participate in the trial to put off that decision - but I also wanted to participate in this research as well. I'll be closely followed with mammos and MRI's and if it comes back again I will definitely go with a bi-lat at that time. Hopefully that time won't come! My onc wants to hit it strong as it is HER2++ again so after the surgery and rads I will be doing the carbo/taxotere combo, 6 rounds once every 3 weeks. I am bummed to have to deal with this again but it could have been so much worse so I'm trying to see that silver lining. Doing ok so far
Good to see you!
