Hey Girls,
I haven't posted much here but I do post almost daily on the chemo board and occasionally on the main board.
I just started a new clinical trial to treat Stage IV BC at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL and they are looking for others to participate. I did get permission from my contact at the trial and from D & E to post this here.
This is a whole new way to treat breast cancer. Instead of injecting our bodies with poisons (chemo) this is a vaccine to sort of re-boot our immune system. They take some of our own blood cells and enhance them then give them back to us in the form of a vaccine.
The preliminary tests and prep work span out over a week then you only have to be there overnight once every 28 days for three injections. I have just completed the preliminary work and am now waiting for my first vaccine to be made. It will be ready November 12th.
The trial will only be open until mid January so I wish you could wait to see how well I respond but I will just be getting my last vaccine around that time. They don't expect me to begin showing improvement until the end of January.
This is a link to the NCI clinical trial information page:

Basically the goal of the trial is to stop progression of the disease and they had good results in a similar trial with renal cancer patients. They also had patients who showed a decrease in tumor sizes.
If you would like more information you can also contact Kelli Wilson with Quantum Immunologics directly at 251-259-5587 or email her at kelliwilson@quantumimmunologics.com
I'm hopeful that this trial will work for me and wanted to share the info with all my Stage IV sisters who have either run out of options (like I have) or may be interested in a new way to fight this cursed disease.
Hugs,
Penny
