I chose to have a bilat mast for that very reason - to help with preventing recurrence. Your surgeon is the one you would discuss this with, your oncologist comes in to play after the surgery, unless of course you need chemo/rads to shrink the tumor first. My surgeon, my onc and my plastic surgeon were all for the idea of doing both breasts at the same time - the first 2 docs because of the recurrence issue and the plastic surgeon because it gave him a better shot at symetry with the reconstruction. My goal in that decision was just to look good in my clothes, and I do, and I'm happy with the results. Just be sure to state your wishes up front, and don't let anyone talk you into something you don't really want to do. Good luck, and please keep us posted.
