Although triple negative breast cancers are generally unresponsive to the standard "receptor-mediated" treatments, other forms of chemotherapy can still generate positive outcomes. Triple negative breast cancers are specifically sensitive to high-dose alkylating agents such as cyclophosphamide, thiotepa and carboplatin. Instead of receiving 5 cycles of FEC (fluorouracil, epirubicin, cyclophosphamide), it looks like those who received 4 cycles of FEC followed by the high-dose alkylating agents I mentioned above had better outcomes.
