About it being a place they can "watch" and see how the drugs are working and I thought "What??? Do you just want to use me as some kind of guinnea pig to see how your drugs are working???"
They also gave me the line about it "might not be a cure and could come back at anytime" Well duh!!!! I realize that but don't they think it's better to get what we KNOW is there now and worry about what may happen when/if it happens?
Needless to say, I fired that onc and found one willing to help me fight and beat my mets.
If she's having PET/CT Scans, it will show up any met that is 5mm or larger. That's pretty small and if none are showing up it's a pretty good sign there is nothing there.
Granted there is a risk of growth while off the drugs to prepare for surgery and one you need to consider. It happened to me but still, we were able to remove the met and it didn't spread anywhere else. At least it hasn't yet.
If she already has Lymphedema, would another node or two really matter??? I don't have any experience here but it's definitely a question for the experts.
I feel and share your frustration. There is such a difference in oncs out there. I went through three before I found a great one and also went through three surgeons before I found one capable of doing the job. Don't give up the fight Sweetie. Help and Hope is out there, you just have to dig around for it sometimes.
Hugs,
Penny
