Good Morning Deanna. CAM is primarily used as an adjunct to conventional treatment regimens and is used by an ever-increasing number of clients with cancer. Certain CAM therapies can be used at any time along the cancer continuum---at diagnosis, at recurrence(localized or metastasized disease), whewn asymptomatic, and for palliation in advanced disease. There are six major categories of CAM: Nutritional and dietary regimens, Traditional and folk medicines, Pharmacologic and biologic treatments, Botanical("herbal") medicines, Mind-body-spirit techniques, and Manual healing and physical touch methods. The use of CAM helps alleviate the orchestrated "one-size-fits-all" health care delivery provided today and enables us to focus on quality of life and on the patient rather than on the "tumor". I have found and will list 13 internet resource sites with their web addresses for a place for you to become familiar with what is already available here in the United States. I am not familiar to any resources you may have in Canada, but at least you can reference these in order to explore more options for your mom.
