I'm confused about Radiation?

I was diagnosed on 2/21/08 with BC. I've had 2 rounds of A/C and 2 left then I start with the Taxol/Herceptin. I'm confused about radiation because I've read so many things about it possibly increasing your chance of a recurrence? Is that right? Then why do it? I start radiation after my chemo is done and i'm really confused why I would do anything at all to increase my chances of a recurrence. I thought the radiation was to prevent a recurrence? I'm lost! Thanks
