Hi Kitty - I know this is rough, my heart goes out to you and your friend.
I tend to agree more with Janny - for some of us, who are used to being so independent- it's very hard to ask for help. so from my perspective -
a card or email to touch base is ALWAYS welcome.
don't be discouraged if you don't hear back right away.
whatever she asks for DO-IT. if you can't do it, have an open honest conversation about it. the worse thing that happened to me during the last year and 1/2 was a dear friend disrespecting my wishes, and causing me to distrust her.
it sounds like you are in touch with some of her other friends. Don't let too much time go by, without someone making actual contact. it is very easy to say, i just need a few days to process, then you get into a depressive state, and have a VERY hard time coming back out of your head to the support that is waiting out there. touch base once in a while, just to say, hey we love you, we're here for you, let us help!
so many people don't know how to handle a friend with this sort of illness, they either run and hide from you, or try to overwhelm you with their good intentions. it IS really hard to know what to do. so don't beat yourself up - just do your best!!
love to you both
M
