Hi - this is a copy of the message I posted to my website ( www.caringbridge.org - with site name of kellystrahm ) and sent to my family and friends - I thought I would just paste it on here instead of retyping everything.
I am home from surgery now. I have alot of pain in my underarm and shoulder area and am battling some nausea. They have me on loritabs for pain and a nausea patch for nausea. Dr. Cusick sent the mass off to pathology to see if it was cancer or not. She said it did not look like scar tissue nor did she think it looked like cancer - she was not really sure what it was. She said we will not know anything until next week. I am in more pain than originally thought because the mass which started out above the mastectomy scar line grew all the way into the shoulder. She said she had to really dig, stretch and tunnel through muscles leading into and in the shoulder therefore resulting in this extra pain. It was also a challenge to get to and from the surgery center as we had 5 inches of snow today. However my HERO (husband Ken) managed the car marvelously and got us home safe. Ken will be off until Sunday to take care of me - (what a good man he is!!!) Our church members will be bringing us meals on Mon, Tues, and Wed. since Ken will be back at work which will give him a break and give me time to get back on my feet!! Thanks ladies!!! We will see Dr. Mattar on Tuesday next week (Feb. 5th) and he will read our scans and bloodwork to let us know if the cancer is progressing in the liver or if it is remaining stable. We will also find out at this time if he will be putting me back on Herceptin since my ejection fraction has gone up since I have been off of the Herceptin since Nov.- so it is a busy time!!! Thanks to everyone else for all of your prayers and friendship - you all are a living example of Gods love - we are blessed to have all of you in our lives!!!!
Hugs and Love,
Kelly
Also a special thanks to all of you on this board for all of your support and encouragement and funny stories!!!
