This is my 3rd round with cancer. First, I was dx in 2001 with breast cancer. I ended up with a bilateral (prophylactic) mastectomy. Then, in 2004 I had recurrence to the bones. Started with arimidex, but it failed after 6 months and progression to bilateral pelvis, sacrum, lower 4 vertebrae and ribs. Following arimidex failure, I started Xeloda. I responded really well the combination of Xeloda and radiation - and the bone mets stabilized. I've been on weekly herceptin since. Then, this past December, it metastacized to the tissues around my lower colon and rectal area. They did surgery to try to remove it, but found that I have 'frozen pelvis.' SO- I'm on Xeloda and IMRT radiation for 5 weeks. Following rads, I will start Tykerb. They didn't want to have me on radiation, Xeloda and Tykerb all at the same time due to the lack of medical data.
So- that's my story. I'm 43 now and fighting this with major ATTITUDE! I have a 13 yr old son who wouldn't have it any other way
