Hi Cathie,
I have been receiving Herceptin since August 2006. I did dose dense chemo, 4x of A/C and then 4x of Taxol, every two weeks. I started the Herceptin along with the second Taxol (every two weeks), and then went to my current regimen of every three weeks. In terms of side effects, I have my ejection fraction checked every few months and I have not noticed any significant drop. I have no other side effects that I can tell. The hour-long infusion is a piece of cake compared to the chemotherapy.
I am glad you have finished with chemo, give yourself credit for coming through the worst of it. The radiation is easier than chemo, although it gets old and has its own unpleasantries. Things got a lot better for me after chemo and then even better after radiation. Herceptin has so far proven to be a powerful agent and I am glad to have it. I never have been one to take as much as an aspirin before this, so I understand your hesitation.
Good for you in reaching out for the information to make your own decision.
Take care,
Karin
