Oh Kathy, I'm so sorry you had such a terrible experience with the thorocentesis. I always have mine done as outpatient but with sedation. I can't remember if faslodex is a sedation med or a hormone med, but I had some "f" named sedation. They always go in from the back after using ultrasound to find out the best place to go. Usually 1/2 to 3/4 the way down my back and I am suspecting between ribs. There absolutely should not be the kind of pain you are writing about. Keep all the hospital care givers informed of your pain and your need for them to help you.
I have this done every several weeks. I've gone from having 1100 cc drawn off to 1860 cc the last time. Thinking about you.
