I started doing some research on the internet and I found out that there is a syndrome known as post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS), that is a type of chronic postoperative pain.
Post-mastectomy pain is often neuropathic, meaning it is usually caused by nerve damage. Most researchers assume post-mastectomy pain is caused by damage to the nerves in the breast and underarm area, or the development of a neuroma (an abnormal nerve tissue growth). So my friend, you are not alone. This does happen.
Treating Post-Mastectomy Pain:
Post-mastectomy pain may be treated with a variety of medication, including:
Opioids may also be used to treat chronic post-mastectomy pain in cases where other medications are not effective.
Other options for treating post-mastectomy pain include:
•Topical medications, such as capsaicin
•Massage and/or reflexology
So my suggestion to you is that you get yourself to a teaching/university hospital where they may be familiar with this syndrome and they can better care for you and your horrible pain.
I had pain for months. I finally started taking pain meds and then stretching exercises after the meds took affect. This helped me but may not be right for you.
Please keep searching for help. Nobody should be in this much pain in this day and age.
I send you healing thoughts and pray you find the help you need to relieve this pain.
