I am a 44 year old who had a bilateral mastectomy on 6-19-12 so this coming Tuesday will be three weeks post surgery. I had two drains in for about two weeks and while that part was uncomfortable, they are gone now and I have to say that I feel much better, emotionally and physically, than I ever expected I would! Yay! No recon yet, not sure how long I will wait, I still have radiation to "look forward to". My onc said that because there was still cancer present in my breast at the time of surgery (despite having chemo before surgery) my risk of recurrence is higher. So, I want to talk to him further about whether or not it is safer to wait longer for recon so that any possible recurrence could be seen sooner.
Anyway, I mostly wanted to say that the experience has been much easier than expected. But, if anyone had similiar post surgery pathology reports (cancer still present despite prior chemo), I would be interested in hearing about your treatment experiences after surgery, etc.
Thanks!
