Hi Kathy.
I had the same thoughts. I didn't have the mastectomy but I had surgery for a port removal. I wore my cap to the hospital and only took it off when they gave me the gown and cap to wear.
I also kept my cap on when I had radiation prep and markings (tatoo) even though they said the cap should come off. I wasn't aggressive about it -- actually quite the opposite. I believe they knew how uncomfortable I would have been -- just by the look on my face.
I would tell the nurses that I wanted the cap to remain on. They might be able to put that on your chart or on a wristband. The nurses are very compassionate and work hard to make you comfortable.

Have a nice vacation.---I believe that you mentioned a vacation before surgery.
