In a nutshell here's my dilema... For cosmetic purposes should I have a healthy muscle cut for reconstruction.
I started my reconstruction process immediately following my bilateral mastectomy. I currently have tissue expanders in. At the time I didn't realize I would need to have the latissimus flap on the right side. I thought I would just be doing the tissue expanders and then swap them out for implants. This was my 2nd time with breast cancer and with my previous bout I had radiation on the right side and the muscle and tissues are not heathly enough by themselves to support an implant.
I am 51 years old and flip flopping back and forth on my decision. Do I cut on a healthy muscle for cosmetic reasons OR Do I go flat? I have decided I want an all (do reconstruction) or none (reverse what has been done).
Has anyone had a bad experience with the lat flap? My understanding is for day to day activities I won't notice any difference.
For those who have had the surgery are you glad you did and why?
For those who have had no reconstruction and use prothetics or nothing at all, are you glad you made that decision and why?
Thanks in advance for any feedback. It is greatly appreicated!
