First of all I would like to say how grateful I am that my friend referred me to this site. Everybody is so kind, helpful and caring. I was diagnosed with an invasive Grade 3 breast cancer March/08. No lymph node involvement and clear margins. I have had 5 surgeries since March/ 08 ( long story...). Three of the surgeries were done March - May of this year, it's been a nightmare. I had a Masectomy with an immediate expander implant reconstruction but unfortunately got a very serious strepp B infection (really close call for a visit to ICU ) so had to go back into surgery and have the implant removed. Caught a infection in my lungs, just finished anti-biotics and still on a steroid inhaler for another two weeks. Needless to say I'm so disappointed and also very concerned about my future options.
My PS feels that the best surgical result now for me ( due to radiation last year, 5 surgeries and the infection... just more scar tissue now) will be to have the Latissmus Flap(back tissue) with Implant surgery. Has anybody had this done? are you happy with the results? how long to heal? I heard that the surgery leaves your back deformed is it that noticable? how is your mobility? did you get anti-biotics from you PS to take after the surgery to avoid infection?
So sorry for all the questions but I would really appreciate any information that you can help me with. Expecting to go back to surgery in the early fall... Hugs to everyone
