Hi,
I'm scheduled for mastectomy in ten days and am still struggling with reconstruction choices. I'm fairly large breated - 36 D, and, according to my PS, probably dont have sufficient belly fat for the TRAM. I'm an athletic 53 year old woman and really like my strong stomach muscles, do a lot of hiking, backpacking, pilates, yoga. I'm frightened of losing core muscle strength, maybe having to reduce the other breast to match. Plus, the DIEP surgery is not available where I live, and the really extended surgical time doesn't seem too healthy.
On the other hand, I hear the horror stories of implants leaking, infection, etc. I'd really appreciate hearing about the impact of both types on strength and ability to remain really active.
Thanks!
