reincision after lumpectomy

My Dx is ductal carcinoma in situ. There is no lymph node involvement.

I had a lumpectomy on 4/7. I am expecting to f/u with radiation - no chemo.

I was very surprised when I went for my f/u appt after surgery to find out there was not enough margin and she has to go back for a reincision. I had not read about this possibility.

Is this a common? Are there others out there that have had this experience?
