Hi Cheryl, I had a lumpectomy 10 yrs ago-no problems. In oct/08 i had surgery to remove necrosis from the same side. My incision opened after a few weeks. The surgeon opened it more so it could drain more. He said better out than in. He said i was healing on the outside-not from the inside. i also had a lot drainage.it steadily got less and less. since her wound is open i would suggest sterile dressings. i used surgical dressings they are thick and 5"x9". i didn't use tape just put them in my bra. hope this helps. it does get better but is annoying. eileen
