Posted by Bob Herbert We followed all of the rules and even paid the graft requied of getting things done around here, we had soil, runoff, lighting, noise and a lot of other studies done....we were told that we'd have to move the track down 100 feet and have it paved...which was in the plans anyway...but finally what it came to was one woman who complained that the noise 94.5db at trackside might upset her birds...she lived on the otherside of a hill about 3/8 of a mile away, and there was to be a 20 ft wall around the outside of the track plus buffers of trees and shrubs......WE lost it all my retirement went down the drain along with alot of others, This is one reason Fenley Motorsports (they had bought Bud Moore's #15 cup operation) went out of business.

I happend upon your letter, I know just how you feel...back a few years ago myself and a few others got together to reopen the Confederate Speedway in Woodruff, SC....( now this is where Ralph Earnhart started out and David Pierson was a track champ...many of the famous raced here from its opening in 1949 to it last formal race in 1996....
Beware of the powers that be .....we had the backing of the state govt, the local govts and 99 44/100% and they did us in.....
We should have know as it was a group as this that told Big Bill France to take his big 2.66 mile speedway someplace else...he did to Talladega...and the rest of that is history as it were....
Racers as still looked at as a wild bunch of drunks and fighters....people not even good enough to be moonshiners.....
We had all the info on economics of short track racing and their loyalty to sponser brands, how many come for a race how much they spend in the local area and so on.......nothing made a bit of difference.
If I can be of any assistance here in SC let me know......you might contact the guys at Port Royal Speedway up in Pa they had a long and intense fightover noise and dust and they won.
they might have some ideas that you could use.
