"Having been a motorsport enthusiast (read fanatic) for some 40 years, a long career in the music industry and now an independant music label owner Ive started a production venture concentrating on some of the classic periods of motor sport that havent been documented well or in some cases not at all.
The first project is documenting the initial CAN AM series from 1966-74 working in conjunction with US based Marilyn Halder (then spouse of Lothar Motchenbacher - the most prolific racer of the series 52 races from 71 events). Its a combination of hours of excellant super and standard 8mm 'home movie' footage from Marilyns collection + actual network footage & stills from that period - and were looking to release that in most global markets early 2005. Im also interested in any further 'home movie' footage or network footage, video footage and/or still photography from that period to incorporate into the final CAN AM program including a contact or whereabouts for Triangle Films which shot much of the initial CAN AM series on 16mm film but has since closed its doors.
The second project Im researching now is the ( snap shot history of the golden era of motor racing in Australia from 1960 - 1975 specifically the Tasman Series - Gold Star - Australian Sports Car Championships - Australian Touring Car Championships).
My business partner in this venture is Z Space Productions who are more than familiar with motorsport production with their work with Network 10 and V8 Supercars plus having filmed the 2 Litre Super Tourer Series for Network 7 and the various other programs they film and produce on behalf of the major motor manufacturers (including Porsche, Ferrari, Maseratti, Mercedes). Both the projects are being set for retail release early in 2005.
As with the CAN AM project Im interested in any 'home movie' footage or network footage, video footage and/or still photography from either of the above periods for inclusion in the program. I will also film segments from the various historics events that the HSRCA hold over the year so that these will be included in the programs - starting with the John Dawson Damer Lotus events at Oran Park this weekend.
A question has already been asked regarding the transfer from film. With all transfer from film - it has to be done via telecine transfer to digital betacam. Then once its on betacam we can grade the film, treat it, put washes through it and generally bump it up to broadcast quality - an expensive exercise but necessary if we're to make a commercial product from this and for it to fit with the original network footage.
We're quite happy to transfer the film provided then supply a copy on DVD or VHS to the owners and return the original film + give the original owner a full credit on the finished project - providing the footage is viable for the program. It would help if you could identify what you have from the specified periods above ie:
a) Year
b) Circuit
c) Event/s
d) Duration
e) General o/view - which cars/drivers involved and is it circuit/pit or paddock shots
f) Format
As you could imagine its a long time consuming operation pulling this together but very worthwhile as there really isnt a good documentary around from this golden period of the CAN AM nor Australias golden period of motorsport. If there is anyone who can help with these projects either via film/video content or contacts please by all means contact me at steve@capricornmedia.com.au Many thanks in advance for the help"
Kind Regards
