Posted by Phil Harris I really don't have a whole lot of money to start racing on my own. What kind of options are there to possibly making your own race team business? Is there anyway to be profittable (or at least just support your racing) with it? I would have to have a good source of income to continue racing. This seems to be about the only way i can get a car b/c i just don't have the financial backing to support my racing dreams. Can anyone provide me with some information regarding this? How hard is it to get a sponser? I dont have the money to fund myself to get started without a sponser. Can u get someone to pick u up basically before u start, or is this about impossible? I am also possibly looking at going to a drivers school. I would like to know what kind of advances you can make by taking one of the upper tiered courses that are offered? Can this become a gateway into bigger things? I was originally thinking about going to the Buck Baker school at Bristol and doing the 1/2 day thing. But to me this just seemed like a waste of $450 b/c it really isn't a school it seemed but more like a "tourist attraction." Would it be more benifical to just drop the $2000 or so on the upper level school? Is there any advantage to going to the Buck Baker school over maybe FastTrack or vice versa? Is it best to just go try to work for a team somewhere and see what happens (as in do u get to become a driver or not)? Or is it possible to have some sort of a "Deal" made so it looks a little more promising to get in the drivers seat? I would be willing to work to get in that seat. But I really don't want to go work somewhere for a long period of time and then get nowhere in the end. But if there was hope or something I would work my butt off!!! Any ideas? Any and all information, advice, or help you can provide is greatly appreciated!!! You can also Email me at: Philbhip@yahoo.com

Hi I am 21 yrs old and would really like to get started racing. I would like some advice on what i need to do to get started. I live in Johnson City, TN (about 20 min from Bristol) I have never raced before but i would like to start out racing at kingsport speedway, and surrounding tracks. I know driving takes patience, perserverence and practice. I am just concered b/c I would really like to make a career out of racing if possible, but there is a tough group of drivers out there to beat, and all the chips just about have to fall your way. I am worried though that I am already 21 and I am behind in experience compared to many others that have been racing all their lives. I do have confidence though that I could make up all that lost experience and become a great driver. Then I could advance up the ranks.
Thanks for your help
Phil
