HOW TO GET INTO STREET STOCK?

I a'm 16 years old and I have a 1990 Chevy Cavilier. I would like to ask any driver if they started in Street Stock or not? If you have been in the series I would like a estimate on how much effort and money goes into it? I'm not sure if I need a sponsor for such a low series or not too? If you have any info or suggestions please respond!
