Posted by Andy on August 26, 2001, 7:35 pm Slack Lines,
It just goes to show Bryan what can be achieved when the pressure is off and the fish are feeling more confident. I just wish that the tight liners, as you call them, would use their heads and think things through. Logic and common sense would lead them to better sucsess. The use of slack lines, along with reduction of noise and vibration on the bank, would proberbly help make these pressured waters a little bit easier to fish. Although when a carp has been caught using the tight line method all it does is reinforce their theory that this way is the best way.
I don't know how you achieve a slack line but because I'm not fishing at distance I don't use any form of indication like hangers, swingers, springers or danglers as these just reinforce the tight line, without them slack line can be fed out. As for dropbacks, when the rig has done its job and the fish moves off the initial pick up of the lead will be enough to sound the alarm. So far I haven't had any problems fishing this way, I've taken fish at all times of the day and night but I believe that maybe a few more would have slipped into my net if the pressure was less.
Andy.

: I dont think your missing the point Andy But I
: do think the folk that fish this way are.
: I think the large majority who fish in
: this way are a little on the green side or
: not confident in their terminal end
: set-up. Have these guys not heard of back
: leads or do they have no idea how to use
: them? It also makes me smile when back
: leads are in use and the line is still
: tight and totally defeating the point of
: the back lead.
: I'm a strong believer that the more tight
: lines on a water the more pressure it puts
: on the fish to feed on natural food. I
: have followed the trend of most true carp
: anglers in my area and have given up day
: fishing to avoid the hundred questions
: crew and the tight liners, I seem to catch
: more fish in the first 2 hours of darkness
: than the whole of the pool have all day. I
: wonder why ?
