TO be honest Andy I have never used a sweetner with fishmeal as you dont get sweet fish. If it works for you then why change it.
I dont use fishmeal based baits when the weather is cold and have not had any success during cold spells in spring/winter when I have. Regarding betaine the 5gms is roughly 2x 5ml spoonfuls unless you have some expensive scales then you would obviously weigh it
I use betaine hcl in all mixes at this ratio.
I find liquid molasses compliments csl and usually use both in equal quantities, 60ml of each per kilo is my ratio. Another good ingredient to add to these is brewers yeast powder it gives the bait superb added attraction I use it at 50gms or 2oz per 1kg. Personally I have never gone to the expense of GLM so I cant help you there. To help you understand the ratios for liquids of pre packed additives a 6 egg mix is usually a 1lb or 1/2 kg dry mix, as most bottles say 3-5ml per 6 eggs.
I have and do use a liquid or powdered creamy sweetner with any sickly sweet flavour (like scopex)with great success and a normal intense sweetner with fruit flavours. With fishmeals I use a shellfish palatant powder and liver amino, all are used to recommended levels. Expensive bio extracts have never given me any edge over baits without it so I stopped buying the expensive crap long ago. But I do swear by the liquid molasses and csl combination and like I mentioned previously it works all year round for me.
If you have never tried monster crab flavouring and you want to I recommend you use it cautiously and a distance of 10 mile from home and if you can wear a mask because once that smell is out of the bottle and in your nasal receptors it stays there for days lol and if it gets indoors you will be up for divorce if your married Basically it stinks to high heaven as does lobster NASTY FISHY SMELLS YEUCH. lmao
Hope all this helps
